The thesis examines the history of formation of literary beast tales in Great Britain. The animalistic system, plot elements of English literary beast tales of the XIXth century are analyzed. Genre modifications and individual author's peculiarities of English literary beast tales of the XIXth century (L. Carroll, O. Wilde, R. Kipling, B. Potter) are researched. The classification of animalistic characters of English literary beast tales of the XIXth century is proposed. The thesis has showen that the English writers of the XIXth century could not keep traditional canon in full. Individual author's peculiarities of English literary beast tales of the XIXth century can be discovered in different levels of the text. It indicates the difference between literary beast tales and traditional ones. English literary beast tales of the XIXth century are distinguished for their genre modifications: a beast tale-parable (L. Carroll, O. Wilde, R. Kipling), a beast tale-fable (B. Potter), a beast tale-myth, an adventure beast tale (R. Kipling). The developmant of romanticism and realism made processes of the genre defusion more active that imprinted on the structure of literary beast tales.
