Essay

Dissertation is aimed at a creation of modified variant of Lewis lung carcinoma and investigation of its biological properties, associated with tumor angiogenesis. It was shown, that LLC/R9 despite the similar to LLC proliferative activity in vitro, was characterized by a higher growth rate in vivo and considerably lower level of metastasis in comparison with LLC. Higher angiogenic potential of LLC/R9 as compared to LLC was exhibited in a higher level of VEGF production and in a greater ability to stimulate the growth of murine aortic endothelial cells (MAEC) and to induce vascularization on chorioallantoic membrane of chicken embryo. Unlike LLC, an antiangiogenic therapy (AAT) revealed significant antitumor and antimetastatic efficacy against LLC/R9. A sensitivity of LLC/R9 to AAT was correlated with high sensitivity of these cells to nutrient deficiency and hypoxia.
