Essay

The dissertation reveals the dialectic of interpenetration of sense and insanity, it shows what place sexuality occupies in a system of moral standards, and demonstrates the connection of insanity and sexuality with relations of power in Michel's Foucault's interpretation. The paper discovers the content of definitions of insanity and sexuality, studies the coherence between them and displays how social attitude towards sexuality and insanity has changed and evolved. Using reform of psychiatric institutions and clinical psychology as an example, Michel Foucault proves the internal relationship between humanism and terror. It is shown that in his concept philosopher defines insanity as an estrangement between man and its human essence. It is also proved that Foucault reveals an unexpected feature of insanity - its being a basis of sense.
