Essay

Wavy distribution of charge on the carbon atoms in the charged linear conjugated compounds is investigated from the position of soliton theory. It is proposed scheme for calculation of the electronic transitions in the radical cations of polyenes, based on the excited configurations on the spin-orbitals. It is established the nature of intensive narrow bands in the absorption spectra of cation-radicals of polyenes, which is similar to long-wave bands in the absorption spectra of the corresponding cationic cyanine dyes.
