Essay

The thesis is devoted to investigation of the formation peculiarities of the chondrocranium in the sand lizard during embryonic period of ontogeny. The whole process goes from 31st to 37th stage of normal development. The sand lizard chondrocranium is formed of 1 unpaired and 14 paired independent centres of chondrification. Previously not described cartilaginous structure was revealed and it is proposed to name this structure as bazipterigoid cartilage.
