Essay

The thesis deals with investigation of immunomodulating, antineoplastic and antimetastatic effects of Вacillus subtilis В-7025 lectin. The influence of cytotoxic lectin on various reactions of immune system in experiments in vivo was first investigated. Activating effect of cytotoxic lectin on functional activity peritoneal macrophages, cytotoxic lymphoid spleen cells of animals with a tumour was revealed. It was shown that the lectin stimulates synthesis of specific antibody, significantly elevates a level of serum interferon in both intact and tumor-bearing mice. The impact of lectin on lymphoid organs and haematological parameters of peripheral blood was studied. It was first shown, that the cytotoxic lectin used alone can inhibit of tumor growth and metastazing as well as enhance the antitumor immunity. An antineoplastic efficiency of various treatment regimens with lectin was evaluated. Influence of lectin on tumor growth and parameters of immune reactivity in conditions approached to clinical after surgical removal of a primary tumour was investigated. Optimal doses, route of introduction and dosing regimen were developed to optimize of immunomodulaiting and antitumor effects of lectin. The finding of investigation suggests that cytotoxic lectin Вacillus subtilis В-7025 could be considered as a perspective immunomodulating antineoplastic agent because of its ability to provide long-term activation of effector mechanisms of antitumor resistance.
