In the thesis a complex analysis of form, content and function of the communicative strategy of hedging in Modern English Literary Discourse is conducted. As a result of the research the criteria of treating hedging as a communicative strategy are established; the place of hedging in the classification of strategies is defined; the interactive model of hedging is built and its strucute is analysed; basic methods of nominating the situation of hedging are established and researched within the frame HEDGING; communicative tactics and methods of hedging in replies are distinguished in English Literary Discourse.
