Research subject - the processes of the propagation and conversion of the fast magnetosonic waves during ICRF plasma heating. Research objective - to determine the conditions when the enhancement of the ICRF heating efficiency in the mode conversion regime is achieved. Research methods - theoretical analysis and numerical modelling of the wave processes. Budden theory is generalized on the case of different fast mode wavelenghths at the opposite sides of the barrier. A new method of the interference pattern generation based on the using of the third ion species is proposed. Role of carbon impurity in the scenario of heating of hydrogen plasmas with the helium-3 minority is studied for the conditions of the JET tokamak.
