Subject of research: the concepts HEAVY and LIGHT in the contemporary English discourse. Objective of research: to describe the linguistic means that objectify the concepts HEAVY and LIGHT in contemporary English, to determine the components of the concepts HEAVY and LIGHT as well as to model their structure, to find out the specific linguistic features of the concepts HEAVY and LIGHT in the contemporary fictional, scientific and religious discourses. Methods of research: component analysis, cognitive mapping, contextual analysis, quantitative analysis. Theoretical value: the results of the research of the contents, structure, formation and usage of the concepts HEAVY and LIGHT as well as of their role in indirect nomination contribute to Conceptology and Semasiology; the results of the complex analysis of the linguistic means that objectify the concepts HEAVY and LIGHT contribute to Onomasiology. Practical value: the results can be used in English Lexicology, in special courses on Cognitive Linguistics and Discoursology. Field of usage: Conceptology, Discoursology, Semasiology, Onomasiology.
