Essay

The dissertation is dedicated to the research of piano works of Olivier Messiaen (1908 – 1992) in the aspects of cultural contexts and textual analise. Specific structure of the text field of composer’s music works and its deep correlation with the different contextual informative fields allows seeing the verbal components of music text – author’s commentaries and remarks, as a distinctive cultural phenomenon of the twentieth century piano culture. The paper offers an integral approach, which includes analysis of composer’s output within the dynamics of cultural contexts and the particulars of the compositional, musicological and performing interpretation of texts written for the piano works. The specific attention in the paper is given to the tracing of the genesis of the commentary phenomenon in the piano art as well as systematization of the different types of О. Messiaen’s autho-commenting. It is shown that О. Messiaen’s autho-commentary serves as a factor of compositional style and unites composer’s programming of works interpretation with his pan-programming creative paradigm.
