The dissertation deals with the complex scientific research of the theoretical and legal aspect of local self-government in Ukraine.The main methodological principles of the research of local self-government are examined. Existing theories of origin and formation of local self-government are generalized.The theoretical approaches to the determination of principles of local self-government are considered on the basis of theory of state and law. The necessity of the research of the phenomenon of local self-government as a political and legal institution is proved.
