The thesis is the first attempt to provide a systematic analysis of the genesis, specific character of the aesthetic program as well as methods of image formation of the Angry Young Men group writers in the context of literary counterculture of the epoch. Investigation whether it is legitimate to unify literary heritage of K. Amis, J. Braine, J. Wain and J. Osborne under the title Angry Young Men has been carried out. The AYM program roots in the culturally-fictional tradition of the English society have been elucidated. Spiritual foundations of the young rebels' conception (Protestant-Calvinist spiritual heritage; socially psychological realism of Ch. Dickens; achievements of naturalists) have been revealed. Character of the English classic satire revival in the AYM fiction is specified. Principles of writers' imagery ("man - landscape - thing"), which reflects common conception of reality and man, are analyzed. The AYM fiction is viewed in the aspects of youth counterculture formation; parallels between this group fictionally-ideological program and the beatniks movement in the USA, "generation without tutors" in Spain, youth movements in France and in the USSR have been investigated.
