Essay

The dissertation considers clinical and pathogenetical grounds and the expediency of using the medication melatonin in treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in combination with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Analysis of clinical manifestations demonstrated that while the simultaneous course of COPD and GERD, the disease took more complicated form from the clinical point of view. Atypical complaints were more often and more frequently registered with such patients and intensity of symptoms was more obvious and as a result extremely negatively affected the overall health of the patients. GERD patients added with COPD obtain the decrease of melatonin body provision, accompanied by increasing reversal proportion growth of stable nitric oxide metabolites. In addition, these metabolic disorders correlate with the degree of severity of this combined pathology. Application of panthoprasol "Kontrolock" in combination with "Vita-melatonin" in addition to standard treatment scheme allowed to improve its effectivity over the standard treatment.
