Essay

The research focuses on the comprehensive description of German postmodernistic discourse (PMD) given within the frame of cognitive-and-communicative paradigm of knowledge. The initial point of the analysis lies in understanding PMD as the linguo-socio-cultural phenomenon. The whole scope of texts which are based on the principles of non-linearity, destructuring and simulation constitutes the verbal-literary display of the phenomenon mentioned. The concept system defines the cognitive-semantic specificity of the PMD textual continuum. Mentally essential units are unfolded in that concept system from the superordinate level of abstraction (hyperconcepts DEATH OF MAN, DEATH OF GOD, DECENTRING) to the subordinate level (hypoconcepts FEMININITY / MASCULINITY, GENIUS / MARGINALITY, SPIRITUALITY / CORPOREALITY and their descending representants), linguocultural character types including. The concepts establish the rhizomorphic relations among them and thus start to determine the postmodernistic text creation as well. These are those concepts through which the linguopoetic peculiarities of PmD texts are described in the thesis. DEATH OF MAN represents the creation of non-linear text which is characterised by bricolage, fragmentation and experimentation with language signs. DEATH OF GOD is embodied in the strategies of de-authorisation, intertextuality, citation. DECENTRING is reproduced through mythologization of text substance which is connected with metaphorization. It is proved that mental dominants of German PmD are relevant to both its concept system and the creation of its linguopoetic portrayal.
