Essay

The thesis identifies the main functions of narrative models, their components and general peculiarities of J. Joyce's prose evolution. Using the narrative concept of textual analyses based on the theories of G. Genette, Tz. Todorov, V. Shmid, Sh. Rimmon-Kenan and the researchers of narrative texts (M. Bakhtin, Y. Lotman, V. Tupa, E. Meletinsky, O. Freidenberg), Joyce's literary texts have been analyzed in the aspect of narrative structure: plot, compositional, spacetemporal factors and their literary embodiment, the role of motif and mechanisms of motifs' cohesion. The double development as significant feature of Joyce's narrative has been determined. We have analyzed the narrative models regarding the events' development and narration, that provides the vision of narrated. The functioning of different communicative levels and instances in the writer's prose have been characterized, owing to which the communication between the author and a reader takes place.
