This thesis is a gender-oriented experimental phonetic study of explicit evaluative utterances and their intonational variation in modern English dialogical speech. Gender asymetry of evaluation in English has been analysed. Peculiarities of communicative pragmatics of English evaluative utterances in everyday dialogical speech have been elucidated. Prosodic markers of rational and emotional evaluations in male and female speech have been outlined. On the basis of auditory and acoustic analyses invariant and variant prosodic features, as well as prosodic markers of gender variation of explicit evaluative utterances have been established.
