Essay

.The thesis focuses on the late prose of an outstanding Austrian writer of the 2nd half of the 20th century Heimito von Doderer. Proceeding from the crucial notions developed by Doderer, first and foremost from those of the "first" and the "second" reality as well as from the principle of "apperception" and the concepts of "total novel" and "roman muet", the author of the dissertation examines the late works of the writer as (at least partial) implementations of those premises. The thesis also traces the influences of "symphonism" and other manifestations of "musical code" in the plot and structure of Doderer's novels and short prose. The elements of metasemantics and archetypical semantics have been examined as well. A whole chapter is dedicated to the narrative arrangement of H. von Doderer's prose works. The author defines the basic types of narration, and reconstructs the philosophical and aesthetic background which determined the writer's resort to specific narrative structures.
