This thesis is dedicated to the law-theoretical issues on definition of the role of the militia in the Ukrainian state mechanism. It was accomplished the historiographical analysis of the principal methodological approaches to interpretation of scientific category "state mechanism" and was proposed its author's definition. It was determined the transformation strategy of the principal direction of militia activity in context of its realization of law-enforcement state function. It was determined the pattern of the modern militia structural system in the Ukrainian state mechanism.
