Dissertation is devoted to the study of genre of instrumental fantasy in West-European romantics F. Schubert's and R. Schuman's works. The F. Schubert's fantasy inheritance became the important stage of genre evolution. It allows to trace the transition from classic traditions (early fantasies) to predominance of new brightly educed romantic lines (mature fantasies). Schuman's fantasies reflect the specific of composer's fantasy thought and demonstrate the new step of romantic fantasy's genre evolution
