Essay

The thesis is devoted to studying late chamber vocal music by R. Schumann and its connections with poetry and theater. Theatricality and dramatizations of genres, reflected in all elements of musical composition (including form, style, intonation) and performing means, are investigated. The definition of theatricality is given, which means an introduction of theatricality's elements into untheatrical genres. New genre varieties, intermediate between a vocal cycle, a cantata and an opera, are described. Also, the original phenomenon of the song theater that was formed in late R. Schumann's creative work is investigated according to the material of vocal cycles (op. 104, 117, 135) and liederspiels (op. 74, 138).
