The Object - poem by E. Spenser "The Shepheardes Calendar". The aim is to determine the the peculiarity of pastorality in Edmund Spenser's "The Shepheardes Calendar". The methods are "close reading", receptive aesthetics, hermeneutics and new historicism. The thesis is dedicated to the research of pastoral in Edmund Spenser's "The Shepheardes Calendar" which is an important component of general panorama of English poetical metatextuality. For the first time in the native literary criticism the nontranslated into Ukrainian the poem of the most prominent Elizabethan poet is analyzed. The analysis of the poem "The Shepheardes Calendar" in the light of methodology (close reading, research methods in methodological paradigm of receptive aesthetics, hermeneutics and new historism) is shown that author extends common conception about the evolution of English Renaissance pastorality and makes deeper the comprehension of semantic range and artistic virtuosity of Spenser poetry. The Spenser's role in intellectual-spiritual continuum of English Renaissance is displayed and his place in the history of national poetic tradition is determined.
