Essay

Distribution of microorganisms of different physiological groups in Yavoriv Lake, hydrogen sulfide production by sulfur- and sulfate-reducing bacteria, isolated from this Lake, and the influence of this compound on microorganisms (Saccharomyces cerevisiae D-1-S, Pichia guilliermondii ATCC 9058, Escherichia coli B-5-E, Bacillus subtilis ВКМ-В-428, Desulfovibrio desulfuricans Ya-11 and Chlorobium limicola ІМВ К-8) is investigated. The isolated cultures accumulated more than 4 g/l of H2S. The sensitivity of different microorganisms to hydrogen sulfide is considerably different. This compound inhibits the final steps of aerobic microorganisms aerobic metabolism, causes the transition of cell metabolism form aerobic to anaerobic and activates alcohol dehydrogenase of S. cerevisiae. The results of hydrogen sulfide action on different microorganisms' isocitrate dehydrogenase are different. Hydrogen sulfide causes the desintegration of photosynthetic apparatus and the decrease of photosynthethic pigments contents in C. limicola cells. H2s causes the structural changes in the cells.
