Essay

The dissertation covers the investigation reaction contrast on adaptive features of the genus Rhododendron L. with introductions to new climatic conditions. Under the influence of various stress factors on rhododendrons various non-specific reactions such as changing of galactolipid content and quantitative ratio, sulpholipids accumulation, chlorophyll biosynthesis violation and photosynthetic activity inhibition, while, growth anthocyans or carotenoids (depending upon the species), as subsidiary protection compounds, were observed. Common (similar) reaction in response to stressful impact on the level of phenolic metabolism, which results in activation of flavonoid biosynthesis in spring and autumn in all studied species, was found. Data obtained allow concluding that flavonoids and lipids beside an important metabolic function play also protective role in tissues rhododendrons.
