Essay

The dissertation deals with the current task of endocrinology - investigation of peculiarities of calcitonin use as a marker of medullary cancer and other thyroid diseases. In randomised retrospective research with prospective follow up of 160 patients with mild hypercalcitoninemia during 6 months till 15 years have been included 2168 persons with nodular thyroid disease and results of calcitonin screening. It was defined specific levels of basal calcitonin for medullary thyroid cancer, diagnostics significance of stimulates calcitonin, influence of other factors on calcitonin levels. This approach let to avoid unnecessary radical surgical treatment in 84,6 % patients with stimulated calcitonin exceeding 100 pg/ml.
