Essay

It is devoted to the problem of genre definition of liturgy at the example of the works of modern Ukrainian composers. In this dissertation were systematically described the liturgical works of authors turn of XX-XXI centuries. The proposed classification is based on the possibility of functional use of author's music in worship, depending on the degree of following ritual canon. It also depends on the selected compositional model, which has developed in practice of composers in historical and cultural processes. Thus the following kinds of liturgies can be classified: 1) focused on the use of worship; 2) reproduce the model of ceremony; 3) written on the scenic models; 4) created by the author's own model. The phenomenon of ritual and genre was researched in this very dissertation in order to detect differences in worship and concert liturgies. The liturgical works of Ukrainian composers: Archbishop Ionafan (Yeletskyh), R. Gurko, O. Kozarenko, V. Kaminsky, R. I. Drozd - M. B. Drozd, Y. Stankovych, M. Skoryk, M. Shuh, V. Stepurko, V. Silvestrov were firstly analyzed here.
