Essay

In a complex study of 120 patients with fatty liver and type 2 diabetes, including 70 patients with both, excessive metalloproteinase activity was proven, which promotes expression of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1 and TNF-?. Thus, increase in activity prometalloproteinasa-1 and TIMP-1 activity indicates a deficit of compensation by endogenous metalloproteinase-inhibitor. Combined activity of proMMP-1 and TIMP-1 is a factor that enhances the degradation of interstitial liver collagen and provides contribution to the destruction of the extracellular matrix with subsequent fibrosis development. The effectiveness of the proposed treatment was proven including excessive activity of metalloproteinase.
