Ogar T. Heavy metals in aeration zone of the Ukrainian Polesie

The thesis is devoted to peculiarities of heavy metals distribution in vadose zone of forest, meadow and man-made landscapes and the different types of soils of the Ukrainian Polesie. The content and migration forms of toxic elements in vadose zone of the Ukrainian Polesie are determined by the technique of stadial extraction developed by the author. Indicators of chemical elements mobility in soils of the Ukrainian Polesie and Kiev city are established. The technique to apply sorbents as geochemical barriers for environmental geochemical monitoring of heavy metals seasonal accumulation in soil aeration zone of Kiev city is developed. The efficiency of synthetic sorbents application to map dispersion halos of deeply seated ore bodies is demonstrated. The intensity of trace elements biological absorption by vegetation is studied and criteria of environmental geochemical resistance of the Ukrainian Polesie landscapes to pollution are identified.
