Essay

It is found that the dynamic shear modulus of polycrystalline ice experiences an abrupt decrease with temperature increasing at a temperature of 262К, that is below the melting point. It is shown that the observed behavior of the temperature coefficient of the dynamic shear modulus is caused by premelting process. The model describing the structure of a quasiliquid layer as disordered region with a large number of vacancies with nonthermal nature is suggested. The method allowing on the basis of experimental data to calculate the values of dynamic shear modulus of quasiliquid layer, formed in the process of premelting, is proposed.
