The thesis is the systemic research of the W. Golding's fiction from the point of view of genre differ-entiation and evolution. The changes in the novel's poetics and interactions of different canonical genre models have been investigated as a part of author's genre evolution process. As a result the plot and com-position peculiarities of the novels have been characterized; the significance of the chronotope as a part of genre structure in the Golding's works has been found out. The role of time and space transpositions, dif-fusion of some temporal levels, retrospection and prospection has been analyzed. The elements of fable, mythopoetic, fantastic, psychological and carnivalesque modes as components of genre evolution have been explored. The main feature of genre evolution in W. Golding's works has been ascertained as a de-velopment from fable to the polygenre novel's synthesis.
