The thesis suggests a new approach to comparative and historical, contrastive and typological study of the lexical and semantic field of SUCCESS in English and Ukrainian as a constituent of categorization and conceptualization of reality; the methods of lexical and seme analyses of the nouns denoting SUCCESS in the languages under comparison have been worked out; national and cultural peculiarities of lexical and semantic field of SUCCESS in comparative aspect have been defined, as well as the position of each element and the types of relations between them in the lexical and semantic fields of SUCCESS in English and Ukrainian; the structure and configuration of the lexical and semantic fields of SUCCESS in the distantly related languages have been compared.
