The goal of this dissertation is to obtain a scientific degree of Candidate of Art in speciality 17.00.03 – Musical Art. – M.T.Rylsky Institute of Art Studies, Folklore and Ethnology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. – Kyiv, 2011. The objective of this dissertation is to study the tendencies of developing of the Ukrainian piano repertoire for children at the current stage of their primary music education. In this study, the specifics of musical composition, including piano works, for children has been investigated. The dissertation highlights the significance of the implemented best examples of “Galician Biedermeier”, works of the enlightened heritage of the Western Ukrainian composers of the first half of the 20th century and music artists of Ukrainian diaspora in the contemporary piano curriculum for children. The features of the piano works for children by the contemporary Ukrainian composers have been analyzed. The specific characteristics of Ukrainian children’s competitions and festivals have been investigated. The significance of modern pedagogical technologies in the contemporary music education has been defined. By employing a questionnaire, the present study also validated the significance of individual piano works by the Ukrainian composers in the pedagogical practice of the elementary music schools and programs of national children’s contests and festivals.
