The dissertation research presents the results of a complex study of changes of thyroid homeostasis, oxidant-antioxidant homeostasis, the functional state of the endothelium, cell adhesion and fibrinolytic activity of the blood plasma in patients with diffuse disease of the liver depending on the nosologic form and the degree of the activity of the pathologic process. The author has established the role of polymorphism of the genes deiodinase type 1 and glutathione peroxidase in the development and progression of thyroid disorders in patients with chronic diffuse diseases of the liver. A pathogenetic substantiation of using selenium-containing drug in a course of multimodality treatment of chronic diffuse diseases of the liver has been implemented.
