The thesis focuses on the contrastive analysis of names of people according to their physical characteristics in the English, German, Ukrainian and Russian languages aimed at determining their similar and different features in the languages compared. The analysis of the lexical meaning of the units under study is carried out, the semantic classification is worked out and the connotational components of their meaning are researched. The study of the means of building names of people according to their physical characteristics has made it possible to reveal similar and different characterictics of the languages in question as well as to estalish a certain interdependence of their semantic and wordbuilding features.
