The formation, development and evolution of ideas of social progress in the work of representatives of the Ukrainian philosophy of the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries are researched. The analysis is conducted in the context of features of European methodological approaches and including basic researches of ideas of social progress in the Ukrainian tradition of philosophizing. Various approaches to the problem of social progress that exist in modern historiography are characterized.
