Essay

A highly effective synthetic approach to new polyfunctional derivatives of 2,3(3,4)-dihydropyrimidin-4(2)-one and their heterocondensed relatives has been developed. An influence of structure of 1-chloroalkyl isocyanate on direction of the regioselective cyclocondensation with various enamines was elucidated and a series of regioisomeric 2,3-dihydropyrimidin-4(1H)-ones, 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones and their condensed relatives were selectively synthesized using these results. A wide range of bioactivity: membrane stabilization, hemolytic and bactericide effect has been found as a result of investigation of the quaternary ammonium salts based on 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-one.
