Peftieva O. Figurativeness as a semantic component of the word lexical meaning: linguistic and cognitive aspects (on the material of nouns denoting a person in English and Ukrainian)

The thesis focuses on the complex comparative analysis of the figurative component of the word lexical meaning in the linguo-cognitive aspect on the basis of nouns denoting a person in English and Ukrainian. The criteria for the identification of figurative nouns denoting a person in English and Ukrainian have been formulated, the corpus of researched lexical units has been determined, the procedure of conceptual analysis of empirical material has been proposed. The status of the figurative component in the word lexical meaning has been defined, the model of figurativeness creation has been suggested, and the cognitive parameters of figurativeness have been traced in the thesis. The convergent and divergent semantic features of macroconcept PERSON / ЛЮДИНА figurative constituent have been described. The structural types of figurative nouns have been researched in terms of the possible impact upon the figurativeness. The specific character of lexicographic presentation of figurativeness has been depicted in English and Ukrainian. The semantic content of the microconcept name and the figurative constituent of microconcept have been ascertained, the types of correlative bonds between the semantic content of the name and the figurative constituent of microconcept have been determined, the semantic content of macroconcept PERSON / ЛЮДИНА figurative constituent has been compared in English and Ukrainian pictures of the World.
