Sysoeva Y. Semantics, structure and functioning of evaluative anthroponyms in English

The thesis concerns itself with the analysis of the semantic, structural and functional peculiarities of English evaluative anthroponyms. The definition of the evaluative anthroponym has been suggested. The criteria for the selection of the evaluative anthroponyms have been formulated, the corpus of the lexical units under analysis has been compiled. The structure of evaluation in the system of proper names has been described. The detailed semantic classification of the units under consideration has been worked out. Positive and negative evaluative anthroponyms have been identified and their correlations in the semantic classes, groups and subgroups have been analysed. The role of the evaluative semantics of English anthroponyms in the naming process has been studied. The structural and word-building types and models of the evaluative anthroponyms have been identified. The ways of enriching the English anthroponym system with evaluative anthroponyms have been determined. The functional-stylistic potential of the evaluative anthroponyms in belles-lettres texts has been described.
