Essay

A comprehensive study of cell proliferation and mitotic regime, expression of cell cycle regulating proteins р53, p16INK4a, p21WAF1/CIP1, estrogen and progesterone receptors, vascular endothelial growth factor VEGF in tumor cells and the microvessel density (MVD) was performed within the same histological type of tumors - serous ovarian cancer (ОС). The highest proliferative activity was found in tumors with low degree of differentiation. Direct correlation between expression of Ki-67 and mitotic index as well as between the expression of p53 and Ki-67 and between receptors for estrogens and progesterone was determined, while the negative correlation between expression of p53 and p21WAF1/CIP1 as well as between p53 and VEGF was also found. Higher rates of neoangiogenesis were observed for patients with high stage of tumor process while the higher expression of receptors of steroid hormones were observed in the tumors of patients of reproductive age compared to patients with menopause. As a result of multifactor analyses the model of probability of individual 5-years survival prognosis was determined for patients with serous ОС based on to the expression of Кі-67, protein p53, estrogens and progesterone receptors and MVD for concrete tumor.
