Saltievska M. Metaphoric instantiation of the concept CRISIS in modern English newspaper discourse

Object of research: a metaphorical means of translating the concept of Crisis in contemporary English-language newspaper discourse. Objective: to establish the cognitive mechanisms that mainstream conceptual metaphors Crisis in the modern English newspaper discourse. Methods: definitive analysis, a technique of cognitive-discursive interpretation, tools of the theory of conceptual metaphor, conceptual modeling techniques of multi-level spaces, quantitative and probabilistic analysis. The results of the novelty: the first based on cognitive-discursive approach identified Intensional and implikatsionalnye signs of conceptual referent CRISIS, described the conceptual space referents metaphors CRISIS; revealed propositional schemas that underlie mainstream metaphors Crisis in the modern English newspaper discourse, established and modeled correlates of conceptual spacemetaphors of crisis; identified correlates that show the greatest effectiveness in clarifying conceptual and evaluative content of the conceptual referent CRISIS; identified metaphorical potential of the space domain correlative metaphors CRISIS. Scope of use: the contribution of cognitive semantics, frame-based semantics, the theory of conceptual metaphor.
