Yurochkin V. The Crimean Gothia. History of investigations of Goth problem

The object of the research: the history of Crimean Gothia investigations and bulk of the scientific problems connected to the "Goths question". The main aim of dissertation is the unfolded objective illumination of the history of Crimean Goths investigations on the basis of walkthrough of hypotheses and conceptions of definition and origin of medieval Crimean population. The following methods were employed: the critical analyses of sources, biographic method, comparative, genesis, chronological and structural methods. The scientific novelty of dissertation is determined by the firstly proposed in historical science complex research of history of Crimean Gothia and "Goths question" investigations, which based on the analysis of scientific literature, archives and archaeological sources. The scientific novelty consists in the following: - Until the 20th of ХХ of century the history of Medieval Crimea was studied, mainly, on the basis of written sources, while data of archaeology had an auxiliary value. In Soviet science there was a reverse process: the reconstruction of ethnical and historical processes based on the investigations of the archaeological sources, while writing tradition was ignored or it value was underestimated. A succession between pre-revolution researches and soviet science was interrupted; - The documents from archives, which before were not used for the study of history of "Goths question", are found and analyzed; - The objective factors and factors of subjective character, influencing the study of "Goths question" and his perception in science and society are defined; - The so-called "Goths question" is the special phenomenon which is beyond academic science and belongs largely to the sphere of ideology and policy; - The process of ideologizing of "Goths question" begins yet in 70th of XIX century, and arrives at the apogee in 30-50th of ХХ century; - The forming of scientific approaches to "Goths question" in the USSR was in a great deal predefined by dependence on the political factors; - The dominating in Soviet post-war scientific literature statement about a Sarmathian / Allanian influence in formation of ethnic structure and culture of Early Medieval conflicts with written data, and that is why appear to be wrong. The appearance of such statement is conditioned by the introduction of methodological principles and ideological options of 30-50th of ХХ in archaeological and historical studies. Practical value of work: the materials of research can be used by preparation of generalizing scientific works on a history and archaeology of medieval Crimea, history of a science appropriate courses of lectures, and also articles and monographies.
