Essay

Object: traumatic injuries of the cornea. Purpose: To improve the efficacy of patient's treatment with keratitis due to injury of the cornea with iron-containing foreign bodies through the use of chelating agents on the basis of studying the effect of iron ions on metabolic processes in the corneal tissue. Methods: Clinical, biochemical, histological, physichemical and statistical. Scientific knowledge as reduce the intensity of redox processes and reduce the lysosomal membranes stability of the corneal epithelium at modeling corneal injury with iron-containing bodies were added. The data on the cysteine were specified, the use of which has revealed its activating effect on the redox processes and membrane-protective properties and reduction of the degree of destruction of the corneal epithelium. Its use reduces the degree of inflammatory (decrease of edema in 15%, reducing the cases of keratouveitis in 13%), followed by an acceleration of corneal epithelialization upto 5.5 days and a reduction of treatment in 1.6 times. The technique of foreign bodies removal from the cornea was elaborated, when the foreign body is being removed by using bimanual bits that lead to foreign body from opposite sides at a certain angle depending on the depth, which reduces the trauma and to prevent the passage of foreign bodies in deeper layers of the cornea and anterior chamber of the eye. Results have been adopted in the Vinnytsia regional hospital, Vinnitsa city clinic N 2, Filatov Institute. The sphere of use - medicine, ophthalmology.
