The thesis deals with improvement of efficacy of surgical treatment of chronic generalized parodontitis (CGP) by means of lasers. Microbiological investigations of impact of laser radiation on flora at the stage of surgical treatment have been performed. Clinical results of treatment of two groups of patients have been compared, the lasers being used only in group one. Surgical state was accompanied by using ND:YAG (Nd-doped yttrium-aluminum-garnet) laser with light penetrating depth optimal for coagulation. Emitted wave is absorbed by hemoglobin, melanin and other organic structures. The laser effect on tissues is similar to photothermic. ER:YAG (erbium) laser was chosen because its wavelength 2940 nm is consistent with water absorption peak and greatly absorbed by hydroxyapatite crystals. This application resulted in a very efficient and thermally non-aggressive impact on ablation of the hard tissues. Usage of the lasers at surgical stage of treating CGP has been demonstrated to improve surgery on parodontium and decrease terms of actual operation. Application of the lasers reduces inflammatory process of parodontal tissues, improves regeneration, decreases post-operative terms of healing. Analysis of the clinical data allows to develop the methods of using the lasers in the treatment.
