Essay

It was determined for the first time that the effect of ionizing radiation and psychological stress due to radiation emergency in remote period caused the specific “postradiation” PTSD comorbides with depression, neurocognitive deficiency and cerebrovascular pathology. The main psychological feature of the “postradiation” PTSD is so-called “anticipating stress”. “Postradiation” PTSD includes radiation-associated social and psychological components. A new questionnaire for “postradiation” PTSD can effectively separate the different categories of victims of the Chernobyl accident from war veterans and healthy individuals. Violation of bioelectrical activity of the brain shows dysfunction of cortico-limbic system of the brain in liquidators with PTSD.
