This thesis is dedicated to the problem solution of the mainline diesel locomotives engine cooling system development for the fuel conservation and power plants ecological parameters improvement using the slow flow effect in the cooling systems. Basing on the research results, the detailed design of the cooling system for the diesel locomotive engine of 16ЧН 26/26 type with the power of 2950 kW is created. The system allows providing the air temperature in the engine receiver of 48 оС at the engine operation with the nominal power and at the ambient temperature of 40 оС. Utilization of the new cooling system allows to reduce the specific fuel consumption with the rated power setting at the ambient temperature of 40 оС to 2,9 g/(kW?h), to reduce the nitric oxide emissions under these conditions to 7,1 %.
