Essay

This paper focuses on revealing linguistic and cultural peculiarities of mythological intertextualty in English postmodern prose. Mythological intertextualty in the thesis is defined as the result of myth incorporation by the other text which is revealed on the levels of both verbal manifestation of the text and its meaning. The study resulted in elucidating linguistic and сultural characteristics of mythologemes actualization in postmodern fiction. Inner and outer transformations of mythologemes in their new cultural and textual surrounding reveal the changes of mythological material which serve for meaning creation in postmodern texts. Interspersing of mythological elements into the context of postmodern prose triggers authors’ myth-creation. Defining the character of textual worlds of myths transformation and their interaction and coexistence with quasireal fiction world in the context of postmodern fiction made it possible to reveal peculiarities of mutual influence of mythological and postmodern pictures of the world. The elements of these pictures are assimilated with each other, combined, equaled or contrasted in the context of English postmodern prose.
