Davydenko I. Lexical representation of the concept HOUSE / HOME in the English language: a cognitive linguistic aspect

The subject of thе study is the content of the concept HOUSE / HOME, represented by lexical means of the English language. The object of the study is the concept HOUSE / HOME, verbalized by polisemous nouns and their synonyms in the English language. The aim of the study is to determine the characteristics of the conceptual content of HOUSE / HOME, which is studied at different meanings of the polisemous nouns house and home and their synonyms. The method of the analysis involves the analysis of dictionary definitions, method of component analysis, methods of forming conceptual networks. The scientific novelty is determined by forming conceptual networks of polysemy of the polisemous nouns house and home; detecting conceptual domains; those senses which constitute the HOUSE / HOME conceptual duplex are profiled within the domain of HUMAN'S LOCATION; multiple senses of the two lexemes - house and home - and their synonyms are blended together within a model of the HOUSE / HOME conceptual duplex. The theoretical value of the study is determined by the fact that its results contribute into the lexical semantics, linguistic conceptology, cultural linguistics. The practical value of the research is determined by the fact that it can be used in the English lexicology, lecture courses of general linguistics, special courses of cognitive linguistics, the theory and practice of lexicography, in further researches of graduates and students.
