The objective of the research - the establishment of linguo-cognitive properties of Julian Barnes' idiostyle. The object of the research - the idiostyle of Julian Barnes, the author of postmodern fiction. The subject of the research - the linguo-conceptual characteristics of Julian Barnes' idiostyle explicated in his texts . The methods, used in the research include: contextual analysis, the method of modeling conceptual networks, the theory of conceptual metaphor, the method of conceptual blending, quantitative analysis. The scientific novelty of the thesis consists in the description of linguo-cognitive properties of Julian Barnes' idiostyle; the representation of the author's literary conceptual sphere by the set of the author's key literary concepts; the investigation of the author's conceptual metaphors by applying the methods of cognitive poetics; the establishment of the linguo-cognitive mechanism of ironic meaning generation in the writer's novels on the basis of conceptual integration theory. The theoretical significance of the research consists in its contribution to text theory, cognitive linguistics, cognitive poetics. The practical value of the thesis is in the possibility of applying its results to the courses on English stylistics, cognitive poetics.
