Ahmed M. Heart Myxomas (differential diagnosis, surgical treatment).

Dissertation is dedicated to improve methods of diagnostics and surgical treatment of heart myxomas (HM). The clinical picture and the pattern of the disease are described, the diagnostic capabilities of modern methods of research are analyzed in the study of in 634 patients with HM, as well as techniques and results of surgical treatment of 625 (98.6 %) of them. The criteria for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of HM with other diseases were elaborated. Particular attention is paid to echocardiography and coronary angiography, which allow developing tactics of performing operation. Congestive heart failure occurred in 589 (92.9 %) patients. In 39 (6.1 %) patients pulmonary edema was reported. The phenomenon of peripheral arterial embolism was observed in 31 cases (4.9 %). 625 patients with HM were operated on. Analysis of the immediate results of surgical treatment of HM indicates a high efficiency. We were able to reduce mortality in the surgical treatment of HM from 22.7 % in the initial stages of treatment to 0.0 % over the past 10 years, during which 269 consecutive patients were operated on. Long-term results of surgical treatment of HM were studied in 537 (91.6 %) of 586 discharged patients. The study of life quality of patients who underwent surgery for HM removal evidences returning to normal life of the overwhelming majority of them.
