Essay

The preparation of polyfluoroalkyl containing 3,6-dihydro-2H-thiopyrans, 2H-thiopyrans, and thiopyrylium salts based on the hetero-Diels-Alder reactions of polyfluorinated thiocarbonyl compounds and dienes was described. The methods of selective oxidation of endocyclic sulfur atom, and halogenation, bromohydroxylation, dihydroxylation of the double bonds of the heterocycles that were prepared were developed. Different Pummerer-type reactions of di- and tetrahydrothiopyran-1-oxides were studied. The synthetic approaches to thiosugars bearing polyfluoroalkyl substituents were found.
