Essay

The thesis presented the major hemodynamic and three-dimensional echocardiographic parameters in infants (under twelve months of age) who have congenital cardiovascular defects as well as the changes in the aforementioned parameters and the optimal time gap for cardiac surgery. The findings indicate that in the Precarpathian region 7.4‰ of infants born during the investigation period have been diagnosed with congenital heart defects. The thesis examines the structure of cardiovascular defects in newborns and reveals the prevalence of a left-to-right shunt in the patients involved in the study. The researcher considers the use of routine pulse oximetry screening effective in diagnosing cyanotic congenital heart defects in infants within the first day after birth. The study is based on analysis of clinical features, auscultation data, electrocardiographic records and radiological images obtained from newborns with congenital heart defects. This study also introduces a nosological analysis of the major three-dimensional and hemodynamic echocardiographic parameters. The researcher offers some practical insights into the optimal examination time gap and dynamic monitoring as well as hemodynamic and three-dimensional echocardiographic analysis in newborns with congenital heart defects on the basis of the severity and type of defect. The research findings and the medical teleconsulting offered by the leading specialists in the Scientific and Practical Centre for Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery (Kyiv) have enabled the researcher to determine the optimal time gap for cardiac surgery.
